TM Search Tip – Design Searching
Trademark.com provides the tools and tricks
you need to make Design Searching
easier than ever.
First, find the right code or codes that match
your proposed design or logo.
Our Help feature, http://www.trademark.com/tmhelp.pdf,
provides you with the USPTO
design code manual used by USPTO examiners.
If you are using any other design
code manual when searching for designs, it
may not contain codes officially
sanctioned by the USPTO.
Once you determine the proper code(s) to be
used in your search, also consider
searching key words in the mark description
and/or color/lining fields. You can also
input key words (as well as design codes)
in the design code field (USPTO only).
When searching designs in the WIPO, EC, or
UK databases, please see the design
codes approved by WIPO by using the red highlighted
URL provided in the
“designs/logos – international” section of
our online Help manual.
Canadian design searching capability is planned
for September 2002.

MicroPatent Launches The World Patent
and Trademark Exchange (WPT-X)
MicroPatent recently launched WPT-X, the
World Patent & Trademark Exchange,
an online service for listing and searching
commercially available intellectual
property. WPT-X provides a dually beneficial
forum: an extensive database of
patents and technologies for searchers to
review (trademarks will be added in
summer 2002), and a highly trafficked environment
in which listers can promote their
properties to a targeted group of potential
licensees.
Searching is free and PatSearch FullText customers
can access “Technology Descriptions”
and “Licensable Only” listings via www.micropat.com.
Listing is free until June 30, 2002 and is
done via www.wpt-x.com. Simply choose
the
“List IP” function and fill out a listing
form for each of your available properties. For an
overview of future pricing, visit
http://www.wpt-x.com/licensor.html.
If you have any questions about the WPT-X
service, please email Roz Cheslock,
manager, at rcheslock@micropat.com.
Do you want to attend a virtual tour of WPT-X
and learn how to use it first hand?
If so, email
lgaze@micropat.com to register for a 30 minute WebEx demo,
taking place on April 30, 2002 at 12 pm EST.

Re-exams Automatically Available on MicroPatent
Post issuance documents are delivered automatically
through MicroPatent's
PatentWeb and include re-examination certificates,
in addition to certificates of
correction and disclaimers.
If you request a US document, the system
will automatically check whether or not
there are any post-issuance documents associated
with it and will append them
accordingly. See for yourself at http://www.micropat.com.

Mandatory Docket Field for Downloading
Patent Documents Now Available
In response to customer demand, MicroPatent
clients now have the ability to
require that the user’s reference matter/docket
number field be filled in prior to
ordering or downloading patent documents.
This optional new feature helps users
track their file history, patent copy, text
data, and .pdf report orders at no
additional cost.
If your account is set up with this function
enabled, you must enter the Reference
Matter/Docket Number in the “Your Reference”
field. That reference will then appear
as a reference number on your monthly invoice,
so you can track the source and
total number of your orders.
To enable this function on your account, please
call accounting at 800.648.6787
or 203.466.5055, ext 245.

MP Tip of the Month
Searching the US Archive Files
When searching the MicroPatent US Archive
files, we recommend you use a flexible
search strategy for the best results.
For example:
· When searching
by inventor name in the Archive data, use the more flexible
proximity operator:
JOHN NEAR3 SMITH, to find "JOHN SMITH" or "SMITH,
JOHN" or "JOHN THOMAS
SMITH".
· Search company
names using only the MOST significant words and a flexible
strategy, keeping in
mind that many company names evolve over a period of years.
For more search tips,
go to http://www.micropat.com/pshelp.html.
